Wieder, Aryeh (l’onesh)


Son of Chava and Abraham, was born on January 1, 1926 in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. He completed his studies at the Gymnasium in his hometown with honors. He read books extensively in the history of Zionism until he decided to immigrate to Eretz Israel. In 1944 he was active in the Hebrew youth groups in Romania’s capital. Despite the many difficulties, he gathered around him many Hebrew youngsters and even founded a Hashomer Hatzair branch there. After the expulsion of the Germans from Romania and the Russian takeover, the existence of a Hashomer Hatzair branch was legalized and Aryeh came into contact with members of his movement in Eretz Israel in order to hasten immigration to Palestine. Was a good and dedicated guide to his movement. At the beginning of 1948, he boarded the ship “Pan York” . The ship was seized by the British and its passengers were deported to Cyprus. On March 8, 1948, he was allowed to immigrate to Israel and immediately enlisted in the Negev Brigade and participated in the fifth attack on the Iraq-Suiden police force, but the heavy enemy fire and dawn forced him to retreat. On the 9th of Tammuz 5708 (9.7.1948). On the 24th of Shvat 5711 (23.1.1951) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
