Wexler, Yaakov (“Yanko”)


Son of Marco and Rachel. Born on June 12, 1941 in a novel in Romania. Outside of Israel he completed his elementary studies and studied in a vocational high school. Served in the army abroad. When the family immigrated to Israel in 1964, an employee began working on a tractor and was engaged in frameworks. In leisure he liked to read books from fine literature or books in technique. He tended to sports and loved soccer. He was a member of a drama club and even organized various plays. He belonged to the Achdut Ha’avoda party. He was diligent in his work, willing to help others, and because of his social character, his friends were numerous. He liked the trip. After acquiring a profession from which he lived and made a living, he prepared for the matriculation exams. On the eve of the Six-Day War, he was called to serve in the reserves and fell on the second day of the battles, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), in a battle that took place at the Yabed outposts near Jenin. Despite the hard and mined area, the strong fire and the surrounding darkness, and above all – the enemy’s superiority of arms and manpower, Jacob’s squad continued to use its weapons, paralyzed enemy fire, and stormed the outpost. Jacob continued fighting until he was hit by enemy fire. Revealed courage in this battle. And devotion to purpose and resourcefulness. He was buried in the military cemetery in Afula and was later transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
