Wettenstein, Eliezer

Eliezer was born in 1912 in Hungary. At the age of twelve he immigrated with his family to Israel and lived with his parents in Givat Shaul in Jerusalem. Eliezer was a tall, cheerful and happy young man, a favorite of the young people in the neighborhood where he was also a member of the Haganah. During the 1936 riots, he worked as a driver in the “Halva” dairy farm in Jerusalem, and in April 1936 he went on a mission to the Tel Aviv dairy and returned with a new car that he had purchased. Eliezer held the wheel and his friend Aharon sat next to him. The car turned upside down and began to burn, but Aaron managed to get out and tried to stop passing cars and call for help, but the cars, driven by Arabs, continued on their way. Aaron returned to the burning vehicle and tried to rescue Eliezer but he could not and he himself was badly burned. He died on 8 Iyar 1936 (30.4.1936), and was brought to eternal rest on the Mount of Olives. He was 24 when he died. Survived by his parents and brother.
