Wertzel, Raphael (“Rafi”)

Raphael, son of Gershon and Sharona. He was born on the 9th of Adar I, February 10, 1946 in Tel Aviv, and when he was eight years old he was orphaned from his father, who died of illness and he remained with his widowed mother, who worked hard for her livelihood. In November 1966 he was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces, but did not even finish his regular service when on November 20, 1967, he fell in the line of duty. He walked down Mt. Hermon and disappeared. In March 1968, his body was returned by the Syrians through the Butmia crossing. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
