Wenger, Yehezkel
Son of Hanna and Mordechai. He was born on July 7, 1929 in Poland. An only son to his parents. In 1933 he immigrated with his parents to Eretz Israel and attended the Balfour Elementary School and the Geula High School in Tel Aviv. As a youth he was a member of the Scout movement and later joined the ranks of the Irgun, and at an early age he began to carry out public relations and public relations activities in his organization, and despite his parents’ opposition to distributing leaflets and pamphlets throughout the city and public buildings. Yehezkel was called to participate in a campaign to confiscate weapons in Rosh Ha’ayin (July 13, 1945). In the operation, he displayed great passivity by carrying heavy charges of confiscated weapons. Later he took part in the confiscation of weapons from the British army camp at the exhibition grounds in Tel Aviv (27.12.1945), and here too he displayed great courage and dedication. Following the operation, he joined the ranks of the “Fighting Force” and participated with his comrades in penetrating the large army camp in Tsrifin (6.3.1946) .In this action, Irgun soldiers, dressed in the uniform of the Sixth Airborne Division, took over the parking lot and the weapons storehouse Several officers and soldiers and confiscated a considerable amount of ammunition. On September 13, 1946, he participated in a campaign to confiscate money from the Ottoman Bank in Jaffa. During which an Arab mob fell on the fighters as they left the building. He was stoned and stabbed with knives, but he managed to free himself from the mob, which was rescued by a Jewish wagon driver, an oil seller who was bleeding to his parents’ house. At first he received first aid but soon his condition worsened and he was transferred to Assuta Hospital. His attempts to rescue him were unsuccessful, and three days later, on the 16th of Elul 5706 (16.9.1946), he died of a bloodbath, and was buried in the inheritance of Isaac, whose life and heroism are presented in his memoirs of the heroes of the National Military Organization.
