Well, Yosef

Well, Yosef

Son of Rachel and Shmaryahu, was born on the 14th of Tishrai, September 28, 1928 in the city of Brisk, Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1934. His sick father was unable to work and Yosef was the main breadwinner in the house. He carried his yoke with love. From the age of 16 he was active in the Haganah, but never told the details of his activities at home. When the War of Independence broke out he did not wait for the draft order and left for Gush Etzion. He did not want to worry his parents. Yosef was proud of the fact that when he stood at his post in Kfar Etzion he defended his parents in Tel Aviv and in his last letter asked that he be forgiven for not having a “seder” at his father’s table: “My place at the outpost, next to the rifle …” On the 26th of Nissan, May 4, 1948 he fell in the Legion’s attack on the Etzion Bloc. He was buried in Kfar Etzion. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
