Weitzner, Aharon

Aharon (Roni), son of Shoshana and Moshe, was born on November 2, 1952 in Kiryat Tivon. He studied at the Kiryat Tivon Elementary School and completed his studies in the real-biological track at the Grinberg High School in the Kirya. Roni – his parents, his classmates, his teachers and his friends in the Hanoar Haoved youth movement – was an outstanding student and achieved impressive achievements in his favorite profession, biology. He was a broad-minded boy, and his field of interest also encompassed literature and languages. Many of the pamphlets published under the auspices of his school’s students’ committee include songs and reflections by Roni. In the summer of 1970, during a period of many pursuits after terrorists in the Jordan Valley, Roni wrote “Shir Shabbat”: … “Everyone has a rest on the Sabbath, but for a mother and father who is on the front / that is another day of the week in which blood spills / and hearts are broken on ashlar stones.” As a student in the eighth grade, Roni wrote a work in English, and it was published in the Jerusalem Post. At the same time as he was immersed in the spiritual world, Roni was an avid sports enthusiast and an active player in the company. In the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement he later became a mentor, and in his school he became an outstanding figure and was elected chairman of the student council. His adult approach to life and his sincere will to help others in times of trouble put him in the forefront of his class. Roni was drafted into the IDF in early February 1971. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the Armash unit. He earned his command and was awarded the “Operational Service Award.” His comrades-in-arms testify to him, who was an exemplary officer, responsible and devoted to his job and with an indefatigable energy When he came home for a short vacation, he used to give up the social parties and devote his time to anyone who needed it, patiently and devotedly explaining to his younger brother, Avi, difficult academic issues, and then inquiring about Avi’s achievements in the exam. Roni, when he was at home, friends and friends always came to him, and he went to each of them, helped them, guided them and helped them to Ken In the Yom Kippur War, on October 6, 1973, the armored personnel carriers unit under the command of Roni was attacked by the infantry of the Egyptians in the northern sector of the Canal, opposite Kantara, Roni was killed in battle and brought to rest, “In the letter to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote:” Your son, the late Lieutenant Roni, served in the Armored Corps for a long time, was a good officer, brilliant in his intelligence. He was a good MP and admired his soldiers, and he fought courageously and with great fervor. ” In the list “I am a sabra,” written by Roni, age 17, we read: “For me, Israel is where I live, spending twenty-four hours every day, all year round. I do not see heroic soldiers. I see the son of my neighbor returning from the front, telling me what happened to him there … Almost every day they are killed on the borders and Mother cries at the open grave of 20 year old Yakira. But this is Israel. Go to Tel Aviv, Haifa or Tivon, I promise you to meet a lot of boys and girls in the streets of the cities, the shop windows full of luxuries, and there is no sense that we are fighting for our souls. “
