Weissman, Yosef
Son of Esther and Noah, was born on the 24th of Adar I, 5624 (24.2.1924) in Haifa. He studied at a school in Haifa and later studied agriculture at the son of Shemen Youth Village. After completing his studies, he was hired by the Electric Company in Haifa as a metalworker and during his work he completed his studies in these subjects. As a member of the “Haganah” from his youth, he was absent for several weeks from work, on long journeys and exercises, and when he returned he said nothing. Yosef went on a Palmach training course at Beit Alpha, and even after returning to work in Haifa, he was called as a reservist (reservist) to participate in Palmach operations to raise immigrants and sabotage during the revolt. The bold and dangerous acts seemed to him obvious. After the UN General Assembly resolution on the partition of the country into two states, he returned to full service in the Palmach in December 1947, continued in bolder and more dangerous positions and remained the same cheerful friend as before. According to his old friends, his nickname remained “Yossele the Little”, although in the meantime he grew up to become a tall and sturdy man, and for this reason he was also called “The Giant in the Animals of the Negev” and “Yossele and Half”. He participated in escorting convoys in the Negev and in many combat operations against local gangs and later against the regular Egyptian army until he was killed in Nir Am on 10 May 1948 after an Egyptian bombardment lasting three hours. 21 Kislev 5710 (November 30, 1950) was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Haifa.
