Weissman, Tuvia-Yanai


Yannai, son of Orly and Avraham Weissman, was born in Safed in 1994. When Yanai was one year old his family moved to Ma’ale Michmash in the Binyamin region. After completing twelve years of study, he joined the Yedidya pre-military academy in Gush Etzion. he spent a year and a half in the preparatory program and was engaged in the search for truth without compromises. During his studies at the academy, Yanai and his girlfriend decided to marry. The wedding took place about two months before Yanai was drafted into the IDF. In March 2014, Yanai enlisted in the 50th Battalion of the Nahal Brigade. After completing his training as a combat soldier, Yanai served as a platoon commander in the 50th Battalion. During a vacation with his family, on the 10th of Adar I (18.2.2016), he went with his wife and their baby daughter to the supermarket in Shaar Binyamin, near Ma’ale Michmash. While there, a terrorist squad, armed with knives, entered the shop and began to stab one of the customers. Yannai was in another area of ​​the store at the start of the event, but when he heard the shouts and screams, he ran and with bare hands he fought the terrorists, preventing them from continuing to attack. During that fight, Yanai was stabbed and critically injured. He died a few hours later in the hospital. He was twenty-one. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem.
