Weiss, Kfir

Weiss, Kfir

Ben Yaffa and Pinchas. He was born on 28.11.1977 at the Bikur Cholim Hospital in Jerusalem. First grandson of the Weiss family, brother of Keren, Ilan Ward. Kfir grew up and was educated in Beit Shemesh, studied at the “Adiyahu” elementary school and at the “Shiber” high school. Kfir was a quiet, introverted child, or at least that’s what everyone used to describe him. As a child he studied karate, and in the years to come he learned to play guitar. He listened a lot to classical music and loved to read. As a boy, he studied self-study of computer programs, and the army trained extensively and rode bicycles everywhere. At the end of his studies at the elementary school, his teacher Ilana Cohen parted with him in her poem: “Kfir is admirable for a variety of reasons, which are very difficult to enumerate / diligent, silent, efficient / with success. You have always been successful, and you have always been successful, and jealousy and jealousy are lost / When you know closely / All good and continue only so / And success never forget you. ” His teacher, Tzvia, wrote to him: “Kfir, you were nice, shy, humble, and loved by you and your friends, a diligent student, interested, you know, you gave me a feeling of satisfaction, I felt I was not just in class. Be proud of your behavior in the days when violent people are not always nice to each other. In his behavior he applied principles of human dignity as a person and “love your neighbor as yourself”. He weighed his words carefully, careful not to hurt others. He was an exemplary son and brother, loved by his friends and all the family. The impression he left on everyone he met was that of a pleasant, gentle and special man. Kfir joined the IDF on March 25, 1996 and served in the combat engineering division of the “HaBazqa” squadron, completing a course for commanders and commanding recruits. Was an exemplary commander and loved by all his soldiers, a true friend of his comrades. At the end of his service he was recommended to join him in a delegation that left for Russia. After his release Kfir began working in the computer unit of Bank Leumi in Lod as a programmer. At the same time, he studied at Ramat Gan College. He finished his first semester with honors, but did not finish his studies. During February 2002, Kfir was called up for reserve duty. On the 19th of Adar 5762 (March 3, 2002) he fell in combat activity in Judea and Samaria at the age of 24. Kfir was posted at a checkpoint at the British police junction in Wadi Hermia between Ali and Ofra, and a terrorist from the Fatah movement, Armed with a carbine rifle, on a hill west of the checkpoint and following the soldiers’ activity, when a civilian car arrived at the checkpoint and a soldier went to check it, the terrorist opened fire and fired twenty-five bullets, changing positions and shooting at soldiers at the checkpoint and military and civilian vehicles. Six more soldiers and three civilians fell: Captain Ariel Hovav, Lieutenant David Damelin, First Sergeant Rafael Levy, Sergeant Eran Gad, Mel Avraham Ezra, Sergeant Yochai Porat, Sergey Torov, Vadim Balagula and Yitzhak Didi Kfir was laid to rest in the Beit Shemesh cemetery and left his parents, two sisters and a brother, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant. .. But Kfir also left a lot of friends and other family members who love and miss, and Sophie the bitch who knows (probably) that he is no longer in his room. He left behind him: a dirty car, a cluttered wardrobe, his dartboard hanging on the wall, scattered clothes, letters that keep coming with his name … He left his room behind him, we know he’s dead but his room is still waiting for him … He left behind people who want to call him when he makes a new film or just to ask him something, to tell him something … to talk anote. Things he had not yet done … things we suddenly discovered, new questions or questions we had not been able to ask … thoughts of what might have been … if … unreasonable questions of why, and even more irrational demand of ‘I want him to come back ‘. “There is no doubt that there are many people who knew Kfir better than me, but thanks to the short time in which I was privileged to serve as a friend and as Kfir’s commander, I knew Kfir from the moment he completed a NCO course, I was a lieutenant and Kfir came to be a commander in my department, and from the first week it was already clear that Kfir would be the most prominent and influential commander in the department , Which proved itself when the weeks and months passed, and when we reached the line at Rachel’s Tomb, Bethlehem, Kfir was first to become the sergeant of the platoon. I was not with Kfir and the other friends on March 3, 2002 at the British police checkpoint, the day the terrible and terrible thing happened, but I am convinced and certain that Kfir acted with remarkable courage While trying to protect the lives of his comrades at the outpost, I will always remember him, with his mischievous smile spread over his face, his weapon in his hand, and his eyes shining with joy. ” In addition, Kfir wrote: “So who was he, what kind of person was Kfir? You could try to write where he grew up (Beit Shemesh) and what his hobbies were (playing the guitar and singing, listening to music, reading books …). To tell him where he worked (a programmer at Bank Leumi) and what he learned (computers), and in what force he served (combat engineering) … so many people knew him and loved him, everyone knows how to tell something … and still … not everything we know. And yet, who was he? Any attempt to answer this by means of letters printed on a page does him an injustice, he deserves so much more. ” His brother Ilan said: “Many qualities can exist in one man, but a characteristic that every man will always recognize Kfir is cynicism: Kfir always knew how to look at the world simply, with the calm that characterized him, and always knew how to convey the feeling to everyone around him. In the beginning, the heart of man was bad from his youth, so there is no doubt that Kfir is not the only person who knows that Kfir is the only person I know who can really sing about him “Where are there other people like that man?” My older brother, it has been eight years and since then the longing has only intensified, and his absence is very great. “
