Weiss, Eliyahu (Willi)
Born in 1916 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. In Vienna he was a member of the Social Democratic Party and believed that socialism would free the working man. In the end he was disappointed by the world-wide idea, approached Zionism and in 1936 immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in Haifa. In Israel he joined the General Federation and was a member of the Haganah. For his living he worked as an electrician with Zenit, and on its behalf used to travel around the country and install radio receivers. On 3 Tishrei, 8.9.1937, on the way from Nahalal to his home in Haifa, together with his friend who helped him install a radio receiver in the house of one of the settlers in the village, he was murdered. He was brought to rest in the Haifa cemetery, and his family, who remained abroad, perished in the Holocaust.
