Weiss, Alexander
Nina and Yevgeny’s eldest son. Alexander (Alex) was born in Birobidzhan in the USSR on June 6, 1959. His hometown was established during Stalin’s rule as an autonomous Jewish area, but despite the large number of Jews in the area they were unable to express their religion and the holidays were celebrated secretly. After graduating from high school, Alex enlisted in the police station where he served for six years. Already during this period he dreamed of arriving in Israel, but his family, which was afraid of the authorities, rejected this idea out of hand. Immediately after the perestroika began and the collapse of the Communist regime, the entire family decided to immigrate to Israel, and Alex arrived in Haifa with his parents in May 1990. In Israel they met their family, who immigrated from Poland in the 1960s. The renewed contact with them brought Alex together with his wife and with the Israel Police. In November 1991 Alex Lorley married and together they set up a warm and loving home. His devotion to his wife, the four children, and the parents knew no boundaries. It is hard to forget his excitement when his “Sabra” daughter was born. Alex was a full partner in supporting the family’s plans, including Orly’s decision to retire from the office where she worked for 16 years and to start a new career in the field she loved – a bakery. Despite his age, he was “poisoned” and volunteered for every mission such as disengagement, guarding dignitaries, the events of October, attacks and the Second Lebanon War, and in his aspiration to progress, Alex studied at the University of Haifa for his first degree. On the day that Alex ‘s illness was discovered, he still performed at the events of the holiday Holidays in Haifa, but the tumor which was first developed subdued him and the day of the tribe Tss”h (27/01/2008) died. Advanced Sergeant Alex was forty-nine when he fell. He was buried in the Ein Carmel cemetery. Survived by a woman, four children, parents and a sister.
