Weish, Joseph


Joseph (Yossi), son of Esther and Abraham, was born on the 3rd of Adar 5714 (February 6, 1954) in Cairo, Egypt, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1957. He completed his elementary studies at the Weizmann School in Rehovot. Afterward, he completed high school at the Amos de Shalit school in Rehovot. Yossi was a good student and especially excelled in mathematics. Even when he was young, he loved the profession and was so well versed in it that he would correct his teachers’ mistakes in calculations. He completed his matriculation exams with honors, and his mathematics grade was the highest. 10. Yossi was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and loved everything related to the movement – the members, the trips, and the ongoing activities. He also took an active part in all events in the movement. Yossi had many friends, and he was very devoted to them. He liked to be with them and was always willing to help each of them, both in providing real and practical assistance and with advice and encouragement. He was a loving and devoted son to his family, he was with them at every opportunity and was a partner in the events and experiences that the family experienced in special cases and in everyday life. Yosef was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of August 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing his basic training he was assigned to a tank driver, In the Yom Kippur War, Yossi participated in the battle against the Egyptians in the Sinai Desert, and in the battle that took place in the Sinai. On October 10, 1973, he was hit and killed. Was laid to rest at the cemetery of Rechovot. Survived by his parents, brother, and sister. After falling he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
