Weisfeld, Zvi (“Gandhi” and “Gana”)


Zvi, son of Yitzhak and Pearl Weisfeld, was born on the 25th of Iyar 5702 (April 25, 1942) in Russia. He immigrated to Israel in 1957. He spent one year at Kibbutz Shefayim and then studied for two years at the Montefiore School and prepared for his matriculation exams at an evening school. When the time came he was called up for reserve duty, at the outbreak of the Six-Day War. Zvi fought in a reconnaissance company and while he was on a reconnaissance mission along Jebel Libni, Sinai, in anticipation of their attack by the IDF, he fell on 27 Iyar (May 6, 1967). He left a wife and a child and was buried at the military cemetery in Bari and later transferred to the eternal military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
