Weisbord, Shlomo

Son of Ahuva and Menahem, Shlomo was born on December 15, 1919 in the city of Lomza, Poland. When he was seven years old, he lost his father. He studied in Talmud Torah and Yeshiva. In 1934 he immigrated to Israel with his younger brother and settled in Rishon Letzion. Here he worked in clerical work, and from diligent reading of science books he acquired a considerable education. From the early years of his youth he was active in the ranks of the Hagana. During the Second World War he served for three years in the Jewish Brigade. When the War of Independence broke out, he enlisted in the army and served in the 7th Brigade. When the Legion entered the war, Shlomo’s forces seized the Latrun Brigade and cut off the road to Jerusalem. The brigade’s forces encountered a stronger enemy and were forced to withdraw while conducting a difficult battle. On the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948), Shlomo fell in this battle. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
