Weisboim, Zerach


Son of Rachel and Moshe, was born in 1931 in the town of Lukow, Poland. He was a Holocaust survivor. After the war, he managed to reach Austria and served as a Jewish Agency official and a guide in the Haganah. He was especially active in smuggling Jews from Austria to Germany to hasten their immigration to Palestine therefore his own immigration was postponed until the end of the War of Independence. When he came to Israel to join the fighters Zerach was destined to live in the homeland for only a few days. Zerach was one of the new immigrants who had been sent immediately to the Menara, and had first contact with the landscape and the conditions of the working settlements and their protection when he perished in an explosion disaster that occurred on the market. It was 22nd of Av, August 27, 1948. On the 30th of Av 5710 (30.7.1950) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
