Weinstock, Yeshayahu (Shake)
Yeshayahu (Shake), son of Tova and Meir Weinstock, was born in 1922 in Sosnowiec, Poland, and received a traditional religious education in a Hassidic environment. He suffered in the extermination camps and miraculously survived. He met his brother, who was imprisoned in other camps, and decided to immigrate with him. He immigrated to Israel but was arrested on the way and deported to Cyprus with the other immigrants. Yeshayahu arrived in Israel in 1947, settled in a barrack in Ra’anana, established a family and worked as an
upholsterer. With the declaration of independence, he joined the army and participated in the battles of Latrun, Gezer, Hulda, Gan Yavneh and other activities in the south in the Givati Brigade. He participated in the “Yoav” operation for the breakthrough to the Negev. In this battle he fell on the 14th of Tishrei, 17 October 1948, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in the village of Varburg. He left a wife and a baby.
