Weinstein (Shraga Mandel), Raphael (Rafi)


Son of Chaya and Nisel was born on April 2, 1962, in Givatayim, where Rafi grew up and was educated at the Masada elementary school. After completing eight grades, he moved to the ORT vocational school in Givatayim , In computers. Rafi lost his father at the age of 13 years, and his mother was given the concern to feed and educate her two sons. Rafi was active in the Scouts movement, first as a trainee and later as a guide and coordinator of the nest. In January 1981, Rafi joined the IDF and was sent to a naval training course. After a brief experience, he was returned to the Nahal Brigade, underwent an artillery course and briefly served as a gunner. In November 1983 Rafi was promoted to lieutenant colonel, and after completing his regular service, Rafi debated whether to continue serving in the regular army or to start studying computers But after conversations with his commanders, he decided to continue to serve, and in January 1984 Rafi volunteered to continue his position in the IDF as a three-member officer in the Nahal Brigade, on the 28th of Elul 5744 (25.9.1984) Rafael fell during his service. After being killed, he was promoted to the rank of captain and was buried at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv, leaving behind his mother and brother.
