Weinstein, Shmuel


Son of Yosef and Dina. He was born on June 20, 1929 in Tel Aviv. He completed his studies at the Hebrew Gymnasium “Herzliya”, excelling in the real professions. He liked handicrafts, painting and music, and for several years he played violin and flute. He spent his vacation in the village working in agriculture, and therefore continued after the natural studies and devoted himself to them. When he was a student, he joined the Haganah and was active in Hagam, Gadna, and Hish, and after completing his matriculation exams, he enlisted in the Nutras, and when the War of Independence broke out he drove first in a pickup truck and afterwards accompanied by cars on the dangerous roads. The British moved from the country to the infantry, and soon he became an expert expert and went from battle to battle in the battles of Mishmar Ha’emek, Waldheim, John, Megiddo, Sejera, etc. In all of these battles he excelled both bravely and intellectually. He risked his life twice – once, when he wanted to save a wounded man from the fire-shelter, and in the second, wanting to remove a machine gun which, according to the order, had to be left in the ground. In the meantime, his father died and Shmuel became the head of the family and began to take care of his livelihood, but on the 7th of Tammuz 5709 (4.7.1949) he fell in the line of duty and was brought to rest at home.
