Weinstein, Amikam


Amikam, son of Tzipora and David, was born on 24.2.1941 in Haifa. His father, a native of Rosh Pina, is one of the oldest families in the country. Amikam himself grew up and was educated in Nahariya. Amikam was a well-known figure among the young people of Nahariya. He spent his entire life, from his childhood to the day of his death, in this city, where he also established a family and built a house. Most of the older residents of the city also recognized and respected him. Since he was an avid sports fan, he came into contact with many people every day and everywhere he had many acquaintances and friends, thanks to his pleasant manner. Amikam was an exemplary athlete: he was an outstanding football player who often led to his team’s victory over their opponents and also liked to serve as a lifeguard on the beach. In the summer he would spend all his spare time on the beach and several times he would save people from drowning in the stormy sea. Amikam was a pleasant person to talk to and feel comfortable with. His presence inspired a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Many of his friends used to come to him and consult with him. Amikam knew how to listen attentively and sympathize with the narrator. He had the ability to give his interlocutor a feeling that his story was the most important thing right now. It was always possible to meet him surrounded by friends and his home from friends who came to visit him and enjoy his company. Amikam was drafted into the IDF in early February 1959 and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps, where he completed his basic training course and was sent to the course of a mechanic. He was a regular soldier and an excellent professional, and was quickly admired by commanders, as well as by comrades in arms, and quickly became the center of social life. Not long ago he married his girlfriend Lydia and eventually they had two sons, a During the Yom Kippur War, Amikam was sent to participate in the difficult battles that our forces conducted in the north Against the Syrian army, and the half-track from which he fought was caught in a heavy shelling while he was transporting ammunition to the fighters in the front lines. A direct hit by a shell wounded two of his comrades and he himself was killed. Amikam fell on the 14th of Tishrei 5734 (October 14, 1973). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. He left behind a wife and two sons. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
