Weingrowitz, Yitzhak

Weingrowitz, Yitzhak

Son of Sarah and Ze’ev-Zvi, was born in Petach Tikva in 1915. He spent his childhood in the Diskin orphanage in Jerusalem. These years had shaped his character: even when he was a boy he was serious, not in accordance with his age, modest and self-contained. During the 1936-1939 riots Yitzhak was among those responsible for the protection of the Old City, took part in guarding the northern Dead Sea Works, was a guard at the time of the construction of the “Tigret Fence” along the northern border, and later a soldier in the “Wingate”. Yitzhak fell a few weeks after his enlistment of the Hebrew defensive forces with his comrades-in-combat from the Palmach’s “Porszim” battalion in the battle of Nebi Samuel near Jerusalem, on April 14, 1948. He was laid to a rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
