Weinberger, Yosef-Binyamin (Yoshka)


Yoshka, son of Yoza and Naftali Weinberger, was born in 1921 in Romania. He arrived in Israel in November 1940 and studied the Hebrew language and literature for two years at the University of Jerusalem. During the Second World War, he volunteered for the British Army and held an administrative position in Baghdad and Egypt. After he was released, he returned to Israel, married, and had a son. Yoshka served in the Jerusalem Brigade during the War of Independence, and he was among the conquerors of Katamon as well as many other battles. He fell on the 8th of Tammuz (15.7.1948), during the battle for the conquest of the village of Malha. He was laid to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
