Weinberger, Malka


Malka was born in 1923 in Nana, Hungary to an ultra-Orthodox family. With the Nazi takeover of her native country she tried to escape. She was caught and reached the gates of Auschwitz. After the liberation she joined a pioneering-religious movement. At the end of April 1948 she immigrated to Israel and three days later joined the Be’erot Yitzhak group. She participated in the first battle of Be’erot Yitzhak and was the first victim. On the 6th of Iyar 5708 (May 15, 1948), she was hit in the head by a shell and fell, brought to a temporary burial nearby, and from there she was transferred to the Be’erot Yitzhak cemetery. On the 20th of Cheshvan 5711 (31.10.1950), Malka was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
