Weiler, Raphael
Raphael, son of Johanna-Zipora (Jean) nee’ Heiman and Dr. Leo-Asher (physician, head of community and delegate to Zionist congresses), was born on March 1, 1924 in Saarbriken, Saar, Germany. In July 1948, he contacted the Hagana’s recruitment officer in France, and on August 1, 1948, he arrived in Israel and came to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. At first he was employed in the supervision and handling of army vehicles and made valuable services as a skilled engineer. In the end, he was appointed to the rank of lieutenant in the commando unit of the French-speaking Palmach, and he was severely wounded and died the next day, on the 18th of Tishrei 5709 (October 21, 1948) and was buried in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
