Waxberg, Abraham


Son of Miriam and Yitzhak Dov, was born in 1925 in the town of Yavarezna, Poland, and received a popular education. After the occupation of Poland he was sent by the Nazis to a labor camp and until his release he was arrested in the Bergen-Belsen camp. When he left the camp, he first served in the Polish army, but deserted to the Eichstadt camp in Germany. He joined the Hagana and was a very active member. For a short time he managed to learn Hebrew and accepted responsible positions. He was a counselor in a training farm (hachshara) of the “Bnei Akiva” group in Germany. Although he was able to immigrate to America, he immigrated to Israel in July 1948, immediately joined the Israel Defense Forces and served in the Negev Brigade, On October 16, 1948, he went with his unit as part of the “Yoav” operation to break the road to the Negev, to attack Iraq Al-Manshiyya, and was seriously injured, and despite his demand that his friends be taken to a hospital On the same day he was buried in Gethsemane on the 29th of Tishrei 5710 (29.9.1949) and was buried at the military cemetery in Netanya.
