Wallenstein, Moshe-Nahum


Moshe-Nahum, son of Miriam and Jacob Wallenstein, from the families of well-known rabbis in Jerusalem, was born on October 4, 1925 in the Old City of Jerusalem. A brother to Hannah and Jacob. In 1927, his father and mother were murdered and his brother, who was born an orphan from his father, was educated at the Talmud Torah and at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva, and at the age of 17 went to work to ease the burden on his mother. He was a fish seller three years in Jerusalem and then in Tel Aviv, and most of his salary was given to his mother for his brother, so he could continue his studies in Yeshivah and the tradition of Torah in the family. Even when he was a child he vowed to avenge his father’s blood and when he grew up he joined the Etzel underground movement. After the establishment of the State of Israel, he joined the Israel Defense Forces with his comrades. He served in the Givati ​​Brigade in the Shimshon Shualim jeep company. He participated in battles in the south and the Negev and volunteered for every difficult and dangerous task. Moshe-Nahum participated in the “Yoav” operation to break the road to the Negev and fell in the battle of Hulikat exactly on the day he was 23 years old – on the 16th of Tishrei 5709 (19.10.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Warburg.
