Wald (Schmidt), Avraham


Son of Henia and Mordechai. His original name was Avraham-Moshe Schmidt, and his name was changed to Wald when he deserted from the Polish army. Avraham was born on 22.12.1922 in the city of Sondowa-Vishna, Galicia, Poland. He managed to reach Eretz Israel in 1942. Avraham was among the pioneers of Jerusalem and fell under the occupation of Sheikh Jarrah on the first day of Passover, 24 April 1948. He was buried in Sanhedria. On the 9th of Cheshvan 5711 (8.11.1951) he was transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
