Wagner, Richard


During the Second World War, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the 606 Company of the Israel Defense Forces. Together with the company he served in the Western Desert and was sent with the British Expeditionary Force to Greece to stop the German invasion of this country. After receiving the order to withdraw, his entire company managed to escape from the port of Milos to Crete and settled in the Gulf of Soda. As of May 20, 1941, a difficult campaign began, at the end of which the British defense of the island collapsed and was conquered by the Germans. In the heavy German bombardment, Richard was wounded and on 26 Iyar, May 23, 1941, he died of his wounds and was laid to rest in the British military cemetery in Soda Bay, in Crete.
