Born in the city of Uman in Ukraine on 29.5.1979 Leonid studied for nine years at the Lysenko School in the city and two years at the Technion and completed his studies as a car mechanic, while developing a talent for dismantling and repairing cars and returning them to fitness. He was an adventurer by nature and immigrated to Israel with his parents and sister Lilia in 1997. The family settled in Ashdod and Leonid began to work in a furniture factory, where he took a pre-military course. Leonid joined the IDF in April 1999. After completing basic training he underwent a Hebrew course in the Alon camp and was assigned as a driver in an elite unit, after which he was transferred to the northern unit of the Israel Defense Forces, who fulfilled his duties responsibly and to the satisfaction of his superiors Leonid was killed in a road accident that took place at Sa’ad Junction on August 28, 2001. He was twenty-two years old when he fell. Survived by his parents and sister. Leonid was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ashdod. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. Leonid was a friend of the truth, admired by everyone, his commanders and his friends alike, and Leonid was supposed to be released from regular service and enter the army’s permanent service in two months.
