Wachtel, Shalom (“Shulk”)


Son of Menashe and Rachel. He was born in Poland in 1937. He completed his studies in a high school in Tarnow, Galicia, and was a member of the “Hashomer Hatzair” movement. He was drafted into the IDF in December 1947 and fell in a battle near Yad Mordechai on August 25, 1955. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Yad Mordechai, and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. The kibbutz members set up a small library in his name in Ashkelon Five years after his death, a grove was planted near the educational institution at Yad Mordechai, where Gilad was placed in his memory. Row Golf ball basketball kibbutz and the beginning of each year there is a game-competition among students of institutions in the region and the winners receive a trophy named after passing the following year to the winning group.
