Vigdor, Shmuel


Shmuel was born in Haifa on September 20, 1949. He studied at the Moriah State religious elementary school and later studied at the vocational school “Sprinzak”. He graduated from the military academy of the Ordnance Corps, where he was trained as a tank mechanic, had technical skills and was highly skilled in manual labor, and grew up in the spirit of Jewish tradition and faith in the God of Israel. Shmuel was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1967 and assigned to the Ordnance Corps. After basic training he was sent to serve in the Ordnance Corps workshop in the Northern Command. In the Six Day War he participated as a tank mechanic. After a period of service, he successfully completed an officers ‘course at the IDF officers’ school and an ordnance officers course at the training base of the Ordnance Corps, and his unit assisted the fighting forces in the retaliation operations and participated in the major rescue operation in Karameh, Jordan. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battles of breaking the siege and on October 10, 1973, Shmuel fell in the line of duty. He was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. Survived by a wife and son, parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
