After his discharge from the IDF in 1969, he worked as a television service technician in a large electronics company, and in 1971 he met his future wife, Tzipi, whom he married in the summer of 1973, shortly before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War. Robert decided to return to uniform in December 1974.
