Valentin, Joseph


Son of Adolf. Born in 1898 in Austria. He immigrated to Palestine in 1940. During World War II, on October 15, 1940, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to Company 606 of the Israel Defense Forces. He served in Egypt, Marsa Matruch and Tobruk, and in March 1941 he was sent to Greece with the British Expeditionary Force to stop the German invasion of this country. On April 23, when his unit was evacuated from Piraeus to the island of Milos, the ship was attacked by Italian planes and Yosef was wounded. On the 28th of Iyar 5741 (28.4.1941) he died of his wounds and was brought to eternal rest in the British Military Cemetery in Athens. He is commemorated in the “Book of the Year” . An investigation conducted in 2017 found that his resting place was unknown. He is immortalized in cATHENScMEMORIALc, Athens, Greece.
