Vaknin, Danny – Avner
Son of Marcel and Rafael. He was born on December 17, 1967 in Migdal Ha’Emek. He grew up in his hometown. He began his studies at the Giora Yoseftal Elementary School and continued his high school studies at the ORT Rogozin vocational school, where he was a sports boy who dealt extensively with all types of physical activity. His brother, Ilan, was killed while serving in the army in February 1986. Danny was drafted into the IDF in February 1986 and served as commander of the unit. He fell during his service on the 12th of Shevat 5748 (30.1.1988) and was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Migdal Haemek. He left three parents – Nurit, Michal and Sigalit – and two brothers – Yossi and Reuven. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote of his fondness for Danny, who was a disciplined and responsible soldier who performed tasks in an exemplary way, and his attitude to others was remarkable. Because of this, he was loved by all his colleagues in the unit and by his commanders. The family immortalized his memory by dedicating a Torah library to a synagogue in Migdal Haemek.
