Uziel, Moshe
Moshe (Motzi), son of Bella and David, was born on August 26, 1947 in Bulgaria and immigrated to Israel with his family when he was about a year old, in 1948. He completed his elementary studies at the Weizmann School in Jaffa. He then completed his first year of high school at the Ironi High School. Until his conscription into the IDF, Moshe worked in various jobs and tried his best to choose his future path: he worked as a scribe, as a newspaper reporter, as a laborer in assembling solar water heaters and paint, and tried to work day by day without leaving his work, he did not want to lose his job.
Moshe was drafted into the IDF in July 1965. After completing basic training, he served as a scout and served in the regular Nahal Brigade, where the target group is Yad Hannah. After his discharge from the regular army, he continued to live in the Yad Hannah group and work in the group’s farm. He was placed in a reserve unit and was called for periods of active reserve duty. During his reserve service, he completed a course in armored corps patrols and graduated with honors. During most of his reserve duty, he served as an armored patrolman or driver. During the Yom Kippur War, Moshe was drafted and sent to the Sinai front where he participated in the battle against the Egyptians. On the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (October 11, 1973), his half-track was hit by a search for an Egyptian commando force near Blues, and Moshe was hit and killed in the cemetery in Yad Hanna. He was promoted to the rank of corporal, and in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Your son, the late soldier Moshe Uziel, who served in the armored infantry battalion in the armored brigade, fell in battle …. In this battle, the Egyptian commando unit, which operated behind the lines, was liquidated, and injuries were returned to our rear units and supply chains. The death of dear Moshe, who was loved by all of us and who was an example of his devotion and seriousness, is a great loss for us. We will remember him forever. “The members of Yad Hannah set up a members’ club to commemorate Moshe and his teammate who fell in battle.
