Tzvik, Dan

Son of Luba and Aryeh, an activist of Tel Yosef, a descendant of a rabbinical family, was born on 17 March 1929 in Tel Yosef and studied at the kibbutz school. The head of the children’s company fulfilled his duties properly, and when he finished 12th grade he worked in the field as a tractor engineer with devotion and love. Was very attached to the agriculture. He was recruited to the Haganah in the Gilboa region, and was promoted to the rank of commander of the “HaNoar HaOved” youth movement and began to serve in this capacity. He participated in patrols and ambushes in the Gilboa governorate. He was a good machine gunner and a serious commander. Knew what and when to sue his men. His orders were clear and his explanation understandable. He coolly planned the actions he was about to carry out, protecting the lives of his soldiers, and carefully watching the weapons. He was cheerful and brave, healthy and firm. In battle as in the workplace – with intelligence and execution power. On the morning of the 8th of Adar 2, 5708 (March 19, 1948), a platoon from the Golani Brigade left an ambush on the Gilboa branch near the village of Norris, and Arab fighters from this village and surrounding villages were called to the scene. In this battle, a sniper’s bullet hit the head of Dan and he died on the spot and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Tel Yosef: “If there is a very precious desire, we will fight with all means for its realization,” he used to say.
