Tzuri, Yoav

Son of Michael and Naomi. A veteran of Kibbutz Afikim. He was born on the 10th of Sivan 5702 (June 10, 1942) in the kibbutz. He came into the world at the height of World War II; He spent his childhood in the War of Independence and his youth in the Sinai Campaign. He studied at the elementary school and completed his studies there, and then studied and completed the agricultural high school in Beit Yerah. His physical strength stood out in the sport, in which he was very active and also served as the youth division leader of the Union of Groups and Kibbutzim. Belonged to Hapoel, but apart from this ability, his world was full of rich, quiet and orderly, and a harmonious balance ruled him. In July 1960 he was drafted into the IDF and Yoav underwent a number of courses: a platoon commander, a paratroop brigade, an officers’ course, and he was assigned to the Golani Brigade as a platoon commander, and was assigned an independent mission during the raid on Nukeib. Yoav calmly and quickly liquidated him from behind – and so it was possible to continue the operation undisturbed. In fact, Yoav did not like to fight, the weapon and all his accessories were hated by him and his soul was open to nature and beauty. Where he was able to make his life Simcha and enrich it, and during his free time he was attracted to photography, and today the family has many impressive photographs. A commanding officer who knew his work, in the IDF reached the rank of lieutenant. From time to time he would go to reserve duty and go out to the kibbutz when he was on the kibbutz. He received the call to the flag before the Six-Day War in the kibbutz, immersed in various problems, and that was at the beginning of his family’s building on the kibbutz, after he became a father. His words are characteristic of his department, which was said in a calm and confident voice: “Guys, what I said is all I know, we can only rely on our strength and the strength of our will, and perhaps with the help of the person above we can overcome this terrible problem.” The department was almost completely damaged in a short time. But he organized a number of soldiers and tried to attack an enemy position in the center of the target by means of a frontal assault, with his soldiers exposed to enemy fire; Then a direct hit went off and fell. This was in a battle held at Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem on the second day of the battles, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967). He left a wife and a young son. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and after a while was put to rest at the cemetery in Afikim. In “Kinneret”, a bi-monthly journal of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, his name was immortalized. A leaflet in his memory appeared by his kibbutz. The booklet “53 of them” by the Kibbutz Artzi in memory of the fallen of the Six Day War brought its history. In the book “Mariyot Gabro” of the paratroopers’ headquarters was devoted a page to his biography and to the description of his last sacrifice. In the collection “Bimkomim”, published by the Union of Kibbutzim and Kibbutzim in memory of the members of the Union who fell in the battle, its history and its lists were presented. In the Yalkut of the sons of the fallen soldiers in the Israeli army – “Goily Ash”, Volume IV – was brought from his estate.
