Tzigelwright, Amnon

Son of Rivka and Jacob, was born on the 20th of Cheshvan (November 20, 1932) at the Freud Hospital in Tel Aviv. The first years of his life were spent happily in the family shack in Rishon Letzion in the Aviva neighborhood (today Gan Nahum, Ben Yehuda Street). There were chickens running around in the yard, cows grazing and various fruit trees to the great joy of the neighborhood children. He did the kindergarten in Rishon Letzion, where the family moved, and thus he was able to attend the first kindergarten and the Habib school, which was also the first school in the village. After graduating from elementary school, Amnon was hired to work in the garage of the “HaCoach” transportation cooperative where his father was a truck driver. In his free time he continued to learn all about motors and cars. Amnon joined the Hanoar Haoved movement and was an active member of it. He spent a lot of time and energy dedicated to collecting funds for the Jewish National Fund, and a certificate of honor attests to this. At the age of fourteen, he joined the Hagana’s youth battalions, where he also trained in weapons and served as a courier between the organization’s commanders. On 25 Iyar, June 3, 1948, two Egyptian planes bombed Rishon Letzion and many people were injured. Amnon was among the fallen and he was laid to rest in the military section of the old cemetery in Rishon Letzion. Left parents and brother. The planes that bombed Tel Aviv and Rishon Lezion and killed many Jews were shot down that same day by Modi Alon, commander of the IAF’s first fighter squadron.
