Tzibman, Aryeh

Son of Shmaryahu. He was born in 1912 in Biltz, Bessarabia, and from his youth belonged to the Betar youth movement in his hometown. After graduating, he moved to a training unit of his movement to prepare himself for aliyah to Eretz Israel. In 1933, he immigrated to Israel, joined the Betar labor battalions and worked as an agricultural laborer in the moshavot in the Sharon. He served as an electrician in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan. At first he stayed around Ramat Gan and then moved to the Shomron. In the summer of 1938 he was appointed to be responsible for guarding in the fields of Binyamina and Geder. This role dealt with the organization of guard duty, the division of labor, the stationing of positions and the conduct of late-night inspections. He liked the guards under his control because of his kindness to each one, his devotion and courage. During the harvest season he was chosen to serve as commander of the guard at Zichron Yaakov vineyards, and this role was also fulfilled faithfully and efficiently. At the end of the harvest period, he went to guard the orchards of Rechovot. On 23 Kislev, December 16, 1938, a message was received that a large armed gang of Arab rioters was sabotaging citrus groves on the border of Rechovot and Ramle. Aryeh left for the site at the head of a group of guards from Beitar and Etzel members and went into battle with the rioters. The gang was repulsed but Aryeh was hit and killed on the spot. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak. His name was immortalized in “Their Eternal Memory”.
