Tzfadia, Baruch
Son of Frieda and Ezra was born on 12.6.1929 in the city of Aleppo, Syria, where he arrived in Israel in 1942 in an “illegal manner” in Trans-Jordan, and by then had already completed his studies in “Talmud Torah” He worked for two years as a tailor in the Coast Guard, and from 1945 on he worked as a tailor and served his parents, joining the Haganah and serving in the Hish unit. At the beginning of the War of Independence he was drafted, served in the Givati Brigade and participated in many activities. In particular, he distinguished himself in the defense of the Jewish National Fund, which is located near Beit Dagon, before a serious attack by the German command. He later took part in escorting convoys to Jerusalem. During Operation “Maccabi” to break through to Jerusalem, a number of armored vehicles set out to explore the road. Near Dir Ayoub, the force encountered British armored vehicles opening fire at him, and Arab forces on the ridge joined the shooting. This battle fell on the 18th of Iyar 5708 (May 27, 1948). He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
