Tzemach, Shlomo
Son of Saleh and Naomi. He was born on April 1, 1930 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. When Shlomo was five years old his father died, and a year later, in 1936, the mother immigrated to Israel with her six children. The family members were caught and arrested and after six months they were all released. Shlomo studied in Jerusalem at the “Porat Yosef” Yeshiva and went to study in the Talmud Torah. After the family moved to Tel Aviv, Shlomo joined the Hanoar Haoved movement. He was in an agricultural training farm in Hadera, where he and his friends moved to Tel Yosef and then settled in Mishmar Hanegev. After the War of Independence Shlomo belonged to the Palmach. He was naturally cheerful but shy and modest. He always loved to help others. Shlomo was drafted into the IDF in April 1948. On the 18th of Tammuz 5710 (3.7.1950) he fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak.
