Tzamchi, Sinai
Son of Sonya and Michael, was born on the 1st of Elul, August 29, 1927 in Tel Aviv. He studied structural engineering at the Technion in Haifa, and was a member of the “Zevulun” sports association. He joined the Haganah in 1942. He served as an instructor in the Hagam (expanded physical education), in the courses for commanders, and was the commander of a junior high school in the Yishuv. He joined the army, and served as a squad commander in one of the Carmeli Brigade battalions. Sinai participated in the battle over Haifa, conquering Acco, fighting against the Druze near Ramat Yochanan. For full report of his battles, see Hebrew translation. He was hit by a round of bullets, and killed, on the 9th of Tammuz, July 16, 1948. After his fall, his unit was forced to retreat, since the machine gun that had fired at the enemy, until the last moments of his life, had fallen silent. On the 16th of Sivan, June 1, 1950, he was transferred to the military cemetery, at Nahalat Yitzhak.
