Turkenitz, Mordechai


Son of Sarah and Shmuel, was born on August 25, 1930, in Petach Tikvah, and as a child he could not pronounce the nickname Moti and was called Potty, and when he grew up his friends called Potash. “The leader.” He began studying at the PIKA public school and continued at the Ahad Ha’am Gymnasium. He was a diligent, diligent student, quiet in all his ways. He continued his studies at the Levinsky Teachers Seminary in Tel Aviv, but was forced to stop them because of the difficult financial situation in his parents’ home and began working in the garage. During this period his mother fell ill. The burden of help at home fell to Footy, but he nevertheless took part in Maccabi and Haganah activities and was also a member of the volunteer fire brigade. In the summer of 1948 his mother died, and the mother’s death overwhelmed the boy, who could be seen walking in peace, walking restlessly around the synagogue wearing a prayer shawl and phylacteries, and shortly afterwards he joined the army and served in the Alexandroni Brigade Mordechai was wounded in the village of Yavetz when he was hit by a bullet while he was about to save his friend, and he was transferred to a hospital and died two days later, on December 29, 1947. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva.
