Turgeman, Avraham (Bert)
Son of Simon was born in 1957 in Morocco and immigrated to Israel in 1962 and settled in Kiryat Gat. Avraham began studying at Masua Elementary School in Kiryat Gat and studied for two years at the city’s comprehensive high school. But as a gifted child, his mother wanted him to continue to study at a yeshiva high school. But Avraham, who had a willingness to extend a helping hand to all the needy, especially his widowed mother, decided to study a profession in order to earn a living and not be a burden on the family. As a pre-military apprentice, Abraham learned the mechanics profession. Before his conscription he worked for a certain period of time in Acre, and gave all his salary to his mother. Avraham was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of December 1974 and was assigned as a mechanic at the Armored Corps headquarters, but he did not have time to serve for long periods – on 14.1.1975 he was seriously injured in a road accident and on January 24, 1975 he died of his wounds in the hospital. Was buried in the cemetery in Kiryat Gat and left behind a widow, brother and sister in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Upon his death, we lost a devoted and loyal son to his homeland.”
