Tsubiri, Israel

Was born on December 17, 1924 in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, to a respectable family, he studied in the “cheder” and the Bible, which aroused his longing for the land of the forefathers, influenced him greatly. From his childhood, he dreamed of immigrating to Palestine. In October 1943 he left his parents’ home in Yemen and immigrated to Israel with a group of boys his age. In Israel he was in the company of an immigrant Yemenite youth in Kiryat Binyamin, who lived a communal life in Kfar Ata. He dreamed of farming and settlement in the Galilee, because he loved the country and called her, but his friends scattered to different places and he remained to work as an attendant at the Ata factory. He was cheerful and kind to his acquaintances and sang good spirits among his friends. He worked hard to bring his parents to Palestine (his father died on the way). He was a member of the Haganah and spent his free time teaching. After the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 concerning the partition of the country and the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the army and served in the Carmeli Brigade, and participated in the liberation of Haifa and Acre on the 17th of Sivan 5708 (24.6.1948) With the Kaukji gangs in the Birwa area, after he managed to bring down one of his enemies and offered help to the wounded, the order came to withdraw, he did not retreat and continued to treat his injured friend – Military cemetery in Nahariya.
