He grew up in Tirat Hacarmel and was educated in the garden of the teacher Farahia Gabbay, who wrote after his death: “Mor is the son of Eliasaf and Yael, a unique and special family, It excels in values and human love, as a model for the Jewish people. The first child of a family of educators. Mor is a curly-haired man with beautiful eyes, a smile of gold on his lips, light in his eyes, pleasant, conspicuous in his rich knowledge and rich language”. He was recruited on March 12, 2001. Mor fought in Operation Defensive Shield in the cities of Tulkarem, Jenin, Hebron and Nablus. He participated in a battle in which company commander Avihu Yaakov fell, and battalion commander Ofek Buchris was seriously injured. Despite the danger, Mor saw a mission. Toward the end of the course he was sent to a paramedics course and after the rise to the line began to serve in the important position – a company medic at Golani, 51 Rifai. He was a good soldier and loved by his company, His friends in the unit say he was a good friend, caring, serious and responsible. In his role as a medic, his special qualities – the modesty, the serenity and the special sense of humor – also brought a smile and helped every patient and victim. Even when his father fell ill, Mor returned to his operational work out of moral responsibility and commitment, and from a distance he took care of the father’s welfare. Mor was very attached to his family and cared for them, especially his sick father. He was due to take a short vacation due to the illness of his father who was hospitalized, but since he did not want to leave his friends, he preferred to remain in order to take part in the operational activity on the Sabbath from which he did not return. On the eve of Passover, the battalion was sent to an operational position in Jenin, the city where quite a number of the battalion’s fighters had fallen in the past. Mor was excited to receive responsibility as a company medic in intensive operational employment, and was prepared for it. But he did not have time to serve for a long time in this position. On 13 Sivan, 13 June 2003, Mor embarked on his last operational mission – capturing a wanted person. On the way out of the city, at the end of the operation, a few minutes before the start of the Sabbath, a terrorist fired a burst of gunfire from a crowd of people in the military vehicle in which Mor was traveling. A single bullet penetrated the shields of the jeep from the back and hit Mor’s neck and killed him. Mor Mordechai Ziyada fell in operational activity in Jenin. He was twenty-two when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. After his death he was promoted to First Sergeant. The family received the news of the son’s fall on Friday night, at the Shabbat table. The battalion commander eulogized Mor and noted his heroism and determination in every mission. His friends and family will remember him always smiling, telling jokes, and all with the simplicity and humility that characterized him. For full memorial, see Hebrew biography.
