Tsfony, Shai

Ben Hedva and Akiva. He was born on Kibbutz Gan Shmuel on December 22, 1961. Shai studied and was educated in the elementary school and at Gan Shmuel High School. He was the youngest son of his parents, a beautiful and beloved child of his family, who spoiled him as the youngest of the brothers. Shai was a talented and quick-paced student. Every task he took, whether in school or at work, did the best. His members of the kibbutz loved him, being a good friend who helped a lot. In October 1980, he was drafted into the IDF and was drafted for a pilot’s course due to his skills and not necessarily out of a desire to be a pilot. Shai completed his advanced training course and graduated from the Flight School in October 1983. In October 1987 he married Anat and together they went abroad on a free vacation. For six months, Shai and Anat traveled in the United States and Brazil, a period of happiness, freedom and lack of concern. Shai looked forward to this trip and took great pleasure in it. At the end of the trip Shai returned to serve in the career army, advanced on the command line, was a deputy commander of a squadron and held a senior position in the Air Force Operations Department. Shai’s intention to continue progressing was cut off along with his other plans for the future in all areas. Shai was a handsome young man, a dedicated family man, loved to live, travel, eat, watch movies, read books, photograph, listen to music, spend time with his friends and family. Major Shai Tsafoni was killed in the course of his duty as a helicopter crash in Samaria on April 22, 1990. He was brought to an eternal rest in the military section of the Gan Shmuel cemetery and left behind a woman, Mother of Hagar and two brothers Amram and Yiftach The Jewish Students Organization in Italy planted a tree in his memory in the KKL-JNF forests.
