Truderman, Dan (Danny)
Son of Tova and Yosef, one of twin boys, was born on August 28, 1927 in Haifa. Upon completion of his studies, Dan remained in the group for vocational training. Before he was 18 years old, he had to return to his parents’ home in Tel Aviv to help support the family, and he showed diligence and dedication in his work. On “Black Sabbath” (29.6.1946), when Dan heard about the British searches in the settlements of the valley, he packed his belongings and went to Geva, where he stayed to help his friends in their work. In 1947 he returned to Tel Aviv and continued his previous work. Dan joined the “Haganah” in Tel Avi and participated in the defense of the Hatikva neighborhood in Tel Aviv together with his twin brother. However, when he enlisted on March 28, 1948, he was posted to the Golani Brigade , This time to protect Degania Aleph. Dan refused to take leave and wrote to his brother: “There is no point in a vacation when the victory is still ahead.” The Syrians invaded the Jordan Valley on May 16, 1948, took control of several outposts in the area, but were stopped by our forces. In May, the Syrians launched an attack on a plant with the help of artillery and tanks, and our forces did not withstand the intensity of the Syrian attack. At first the town of Tzemach fell, and finally the police station, and the defenders retreated under Syrian fire. In this battle Dan fell on the 9th of Iyar, May 18, 1948. Four days later his body was taken from the battlefield and brought to rest at the military cemetery in Degania Aleph. His friends in Geva commemorated his memory in the Golden Book of the Jewish National Fund.
