Treitel, Arnon


Son of Giora and Hannah. Born on 24 August 1958 in Hadera, he studied at the Maoz Elementary School in Be’er Sheva, continued at the A Comprehensive High School in Be’er Sheva and completed his studies at the Midrasha Sde Boker College. , Was curious and brave and had excellent physical fitness, and at the age of fourteen he was sent to a course in athletics at the Wingate Institute for Hapoel Beer Sheva, where he was an excellent swimmer and excelled in horseback riding, A bicycle, although he loved to stay in his house and spend time with his parents, who always aspired to live an independent life and thus expanded his circle of friends and acquaintances who admired and respected him. He worked in the Department of Biology at the Negev University, took care of animals and studied their lifestyle closely, and was very successful and liked by those around him, he was kind, pleasant, modest and friendly. Arnon was drafted into the IDF in May 1976 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. After basic training, he was sent to a parachuting course and completed successfully. He was proud of his military role and claimed that only the paratroopers could feel army life. After the first jump he expressed his experiences with the words: “How Yaffa to be between heaven and earth, how quiet there is up there.” On the 10th of Iyar 5737 (May 10, 1977), Arnon fell while carrying out a helicopter crash in the Jordan Valley. In this disaster, 54 soldiers were killed. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. Survived by his parents and two brothers. His family published a book in his memory together with his close friends.
