Toritsky, Eliahu (Elik)


Son of Rachel and David, was born on 24 June 1930 in Tel Aviv. After graduating from elementary school in Herzliya, he moved to the Montefiore vocational school, graduating with honors in the annual mechanical courses course, and devoted himself entirely to the profession of mechanics he loved very much. Eliahu was forced to stop his studies and go to work, in order to ease the burden of earning a living, but continued his studies in the evenings. He was seventeen and a half years old when the War of Independence broke out. He was called to serve with his peers and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. Elijah was a serious and quiet man, shy by nature, did not like to boast, did his job with simplicity, courage and confidence. He served for about three months as a liaison officer in the army, and during this short period he participated in many dangerous activities with soldiers in his brigade. He participated in Operation son of-Nun A, the attack on the Latrun Legion in order to break through the road to Jerusalem. Was sent from his battalion to transfer the command of the battalion commander to one of the companies, but he did not manage to reach the target, and he did not return to the battalion, and he fell on the 17th of Iyar 5708 (26.5.1948) in Latrun. On 17 November 1949, his body was collected together with the rest of the Latrun veterans, who were brought to rest in the military cemetery. On Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
